How to Renew Your Strength
|
In times of challenge and uncertainty, it’s easy to feel drained and overwhelmed. Yet, the Bible teaches us how to renew our spiritual strength and find peace. Here are four steps to help you reconnect with God and find your strength in Him.
4 Ways To Find Spiritual Strength
1. Choose to Make the Lord Your Source of Strength
When you’re going through a difficult season, I want to encourage you to not wait for somebody to fill you with strength. Don’t wait for someone to change things in your life so you feel better. Instead, choose to make God the source of your strength. The Bible says that God spoke to Paul, saying, “My grace is enough, and it’s made perfect in your weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). If your spouse doesn’t want to serve God, don’t depend on them in order to continue to serve God. Choose to serve God and strengthen yourself in the Lord despite of the things that are going on around you.
2. Wait Upon the Lord
Another key thing to do it so to wait upon the Lord in worship and prayer. Isaiah says, “Those who wait upon the Lord will renew their strength” (Is 40:31). Wait upon the Lord in the same way as the server serves in a restaurant—bring God worship and wait. He will reset your strength, restore your joy, and renew your peace. When you do this, your situation may remain the same, but your attitude will change.
3. Make it a Habit to Pray in Tongues
Another way to renew your strength is to pray in tongues–praying in the Holy Spirit. Jude 1:20 says, “Praying in the Holy Spirit builds our most holy faith.”
It’s a spiritual act that doesn’t require feeling it—it’s activated by your choice. Praying in tongues for 10 or 15 minutes will shift the atmosphere in your room and spirit. You’ll come out different, like Moses with a shining face, or Jacob who wrestled with God all night and then saw the face of God in Esau.
4. Speak to Your Soul, Don’t Live in It
Another effective way to renew your spiritual strength according to the Bible is found in Psalms. David says in Psalm 103, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name.” It’s important to notice that he reminds his soul of God’s benefits, forgiveness, healing, redemption, and loving-kindness. He speaks to his soul, telling it to trust in God and praise Him. I want to encourage you to not let your soul speak to you—speak to it. Calm your soul, remind it that God is in control, and declare that God is the source of your strength. When David strengthened himself in the Lord, something shifted, and then he inquired of the Lord.
What to Do If You Are Waiting
If you’re waiting for God to speak, don’t ask for instructions until you’ve made Him your strength.
Elijah didn’t hear God’s instructions until he was fed and restored. Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit after He was filled with the Holy Spirit. Let God strengthen you, renew you, and prosper you in your soul before seeking directions. God lifts up the downcast to bear fruit before giving them instructions. When your soul is strengthened, God will speak, bringing clarity and direction.
Make God your strength and God will speak. When He speaks, answers will come.
