Discovering the Depth’s of Jesus’s Love

Like many, I always believed that God the Father loves me. We see this love expressed in 2 Corinthians 13:14 and in John 3:16 which explains that God’s love for us is why He gave us His Son.

However, for a long time, I felt as though something was missing. Despite my unwavering belief in the Father’s love and the power of the Holy Spirit, I struggled to grasp the love of Jesus deeply and personally. I would proclaim the love of Jesus, but deep down, I struggled to fully believe in it for myself.

My misunderstanding stemmed from my belief that Jesus died on the cross more out of obedience to the Father, rather than out of love for us. This belief was reinforced by Scriptures such as Hebrews 10:7 and various verses in the gospels where Jesus declares His submission to the Father’s will.

An Encounter that Transformed my Belief

A few months ago, I went on a retreat to the mountains. During this time of solitude and meditation, I experienced a profound encounter with Jesus that reshaped my understanding of His love. In this encounter, I felt as though Jesus had come into the room. The walls of the cabin that I was staying at seemed to have disappeared. And there was this Being full of light; and, it was as though water was gushing out from Him. I was standing right in front of Him when I hear in my spirit – “I love you.”

Now, I’m a Bible guy, so everything that I experience, if it’s not in the Bible,  I’m initially skeptical. In that moment, the Holy Spirit started to bring Scriptures into my mind to confirm Jesus’s love. John 15:9, “As the Father loved Me,  so I have loved you, abide in My love.” John 15:10, “If you keep My commandments. You will abide in My love, as I have kept my  Father’s commandment and I abide in His love.” John 15:12, “This is My commandment, that you  love one another as I.” All these verses where the love of Jesus was explicitly mentioned began to flood my mind.

I never received Jesus’s love for me because I thought He died out of love and obedience to the Father.

Experiencing Spiritual Blessings through the Love of Jesus

After that encounter, I stumbled upon John 15:13, and I felt like this verse is what really shook me. “Greater love has no one than this than to lay down one’s life for his friends.”

This understanding brought healing to my heart and opened up a new world of spiritual riches in Jesus. The Scriptures started to become more vibrant and alive, revealing a greater depth to the love of Jesus.

Understanding the depth of His love for us is the gateway to experiencing the spiritual blessings that are ours in Christ. As Ephesians 1:6 says, we have been accepted in the Beloved; until we receive that we are beloved, we cannot fully access the spiritual wealth in Jesus.

Feeling disconnected from the love of Jesus often leaves us feeling like an outsider, an orphan, or a burden.

A Personal Invitation to Experience Jesus’s Love

My relationship with Jesus forever changed through the realization of His love. It not only brought healing but also unlocked access to the spiritual riches in Jesus. I ask you today, have you experienced the love of Jesus?

This week, I encourage you to meditate on the verses I shared. I pray the Holy Spirit quickens them and makes them real for you. Embrace the love of Jesus and jump into the river of His love. Allow it to wash away your fears, anxiety, and feelings of being an orphan. Embrace His love and access the riches that are rightfully yours.

How to Memorize Scripture

Memorizing Scripture is not just for leaders, it is a part of our discipleship as Christians. Each believer should make it a habit to not just live in God's Word, but to have God's Word live inside of them.
