Do Crystals Have Superpowers?

In today’s culture, the use of crystals is becoming more and more popular with each passing day. Influencers and celebrities claim to use them regularly to help “heal” their bodies, restore beauty, and bring about good success. Many beauty companies are selling products with crystals to promote a youthful appearance and aid in the application of serums and cosmetics. Crystals are also believed by many to have metaphysical properties to bring financial prosperity, help your love life, and help your emotional well-being.

So, what exactly are these crystals? Do they really have supernatural powers? Do they have an energetic property that helps to facilitate the energies of the human body as commonly believed? Or are they simply just rocks or gemstones with beautiful appearances?

The New Age Belief on Crystals

It is very important to expose that the New Age’s ideology is a blend of pseudo-science, ancient knowledge, ancient religions, and other spiritualities. In these sorts of spiritual circles, crystals are worshipped as having divine supernatural powers. Those in the New Age often support their beliefs through a distortion of God-given scientific principles. For example, there are scientific studies that show that the human body emits infrared radiation and that human cells use electrical currents to send neurological signals throughout one’s body. As a result, scientists have been able to imprint and store data on pieces of quartz through the use of lasers. The New Age takes the scientific concepts of infrared emissions and the bio-conductivity of cells in the body to deceptively justify the channeling of energies to and from these crystals.

The New Age incorrectly teaches that emotions can be stored and channeled through crystals.

Due to this belief, people have been seen carrying crystals around all of the time to aid them in navigating difficult emotions after a breakup or a bad day. Many also believe crystals can also aid in starting a new business and their flow of finances. In fact, there are thousands of New Age websites online that list hundreds of different crystals with their spiritual, emotional, and metaphysical properties to justify their use.

I used to practice New Age and was heavily involved in the use of crystals before coming to Christ. I would often buy extremely expensive ones for “protection” to ward off negative energies and spirits. I would burn sage to try and ward off demons because I started becoming aware that the spiritual realm and demons are real.  But I was deceived because everything about New Age was deceitful and false. When I turned to Jesus, everything in my life changed and that was when I received my real freedom and healing.

Should Christians Use Energy Crystals?

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

James 4:7

The Bible warns us against it by instructing us to submit ourselves to God and to resist the things of the devil and darkness. This is how the devil will flee from you. In other words, by submitting to the devil and his deceitful ways, you are allowing him to have access to your life.

It gets dangerous when people, including Christians, start putting their faith in crystals instead of putting their faith in Christ Jesus. People turn to these crystals for healing instead of running to Jesus for healing. People who try to channel power from these crystals are tuning to ungodly sources, instead of tuning themselves into the only, true Power Source—the Holy Spirit.

God makes it clear in the Ten Commandments that we are not to have other gods before Him (Exodus 20:3-5). However, many fail to realize that crystals have become idols that people worship and depend on to survive and ease their burdens. People unnecessarily go to extreme lengths to try to get the benefits of these rocks, like trying to charge them in the moonlight.  However, the Bible teaches us to cast our burdens on the Lord and to turn to Him when we need help.

Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you;
He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.

Psalm 55:22

Jesus Christ is the one true resurrected God from whom all of creation was made. Jesus came down to earth to die for the sins of humanity and save us from an eternal life separated from Him (John 3:16). This is the truth of the Gospel.  

Crystals play no part in the Gospel and cause many people to turn away from Christ and the faith.

I have seen people become so obsessed with these stones that they fall away from the Truth. They turn to Chi Gong meditation, yoga practices, hypnosis, bio-hacking, and different regiments, searching for healing and inner peace that can only be found in Christ. They turn away from fasting, praying, reading the Word, and most of all—Jesus.

They go to rock for healing and supernatural powers, instead of running to the One True Rock.

Don’t go to a rock for healing, go to the Rock which is Christ.

“But They’re In The Bible?”

Please understand that crystals are beautiful gemstones that may be pretty to look at and were in fact made by God. When we read about New Jerusalem in the book of Revelation, we see that it will be adorned with beautiful gemstones, such as jasper, sapphire, emerald, ruby, topaz, and amethyst (Revelation 21:19-20). The Lord also designed the breastplate of the early priest with precious stones (Exodus 28:15-19).

God created gemstones, and they are beautiful, but when they are used incorrectly and are believed to have supernatural powers, they become dangerous.

Psychics in the New Age and the occult use these crystals to channel spirits to give them information. This is similar to how mediums can supposedly speak to the dead, through the communication of evil spirits or spirits of divination, who give them information. In Deuteronomy 18:11-12, we are warned that these practices are an abomination to God, despite the fact that these practices are openly done today.

For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.

Matthew 24:24

Jesus tells us that in the Last Days, many false prophets and antichrists will perform great signs and wonders, that can cause even God’s chosen people to be deceived. However, just because someone performs great signs and miracles, it does not mean that it is from God or a godly source. Crystals are a huge distraction in our culture from the Truth that does not bear any godly fruit within us.

My recommendation is that if you find yourself becoming interested in these New Age crystal, studying them, and obsessing over them, or even if you find yourself dabbling with them, I urge you to turn away from them and run to the Word of God.

Please realize that there is nothing scientific about them, as popularly advertised—there are no proven health benefits that come from them, and nor can they improve your finances. They are a source of manipulation, spells, and witchcraft, used to lead you away from the true Healer—Jesus Christ. You can cry out and talk to Him right now. He is your Healer and your Creator. His Spirit is your Comforter, and all you need is Him.

Do not put your faith in rocks instead of in Christ. Stick to Jesus. Do not let your curiosity in popular, ungodly practices in culture lure you away from Christ, the Only Savior.
