As believers, we must be discerning about what we allow into our ears, eyes, and homes. Many people unknowingly open demonic doors by consuming content that desensitizes them to sin, normalizes the occult, and invites spiritual oppression.
Not everything on TV is harmless entertainment. Some content carries a spiritual demonic agenda. If you hear these things, turn them off.
Watch Out For These Signs
1. Content That Normalizes the Occult & Witchcraft
The first thing to be on aware about is any movies and shows filled with spells, spiritism, divination, and paranormal activity. To those in our culture, these might look like entertainment, but spiritually, they’re dangerous. What the Bible calls an abomination, the world has “repackaged” to make it seem harmless (Deuteronomy 18:10-11).
Now, you may think, “I’m not doing witchcraft, I’m just watching it.” However, it’s important to know that paying for it, supporting it, and entertaining yourself with it is still opening a spiritual door.
If you see spells being cast, magic phrases, séances, fortune-telling, or consulting the dead—turn it off. If a show glorifies witches, vampires, demons, or spirit guides—turn it off. Even if your favorite actor is in it, or you like the storyline, I would encourage you to turn it off.
2. Music & Shows That Glorify Sin & Rebellion
Secondly, it’s common in our day and age for culture to celebrate things that God condemns. However, it’s important to note that whatever entertains you will eventually influence you. The Bible says in 1 John 2:15, “Do not love the world or the things in this world.”
It’s simple, if the lyrics glorify drugs, immorality, violence, or perversion—turn them off. If the jokes mock God, holiness, or purity—turn them off. If the message promotes pride, rebellion, or self-worship—turn it off.
Remember, people carry spirits, and even if they don’t openly worship Satan, the demonic influence behind their content comes through in their words and visuals. This is what we must guard our minds and homes from.
3. New Age Teachings
Next is any New Age content. The New Age movement teaches that you are your own god, that you can manifest your own reality, and that all paths lead to a higher consciousness. However, that directly contradicts what the Bible teaches to be true (Exodus 20:3).
If you hear phrases like “Speak it into existence,” “The universe will bless you,” or “You are a divine”—turn it off. If you see tarot readings, energy healing, spirit guides, third eye activation, chakras, astral projection, or yoga teachings—turn it off.
It’s important to note that the New Age has repackaged witchcraft and Satanism in a way that looks friendly and empowering, but it promotes self-exaltation over God’s Lordship.
4. Horror Movies & Demonic Films
Another important sign to look out for is horror movies. Many horror movies are based on real demonic manifestations. Even though they are dramatized, these stories often come from actual exorcism cases. However, in these movies, the goal isn’t to educate, but to entertain through fear.
The Bible teaches us that “God has not given us a spirit of fear” (2 Timothy 1:7). The only fear we should pursue is the fear of the Lord—a healthy, reverent fear. We are not meant to live in fear or be entertained by it.
If you see rituals, demonic names being summoned, possessions, or exorcisms portrayed as entertainment—turn it off. If there’s extreme violence, gore, or a glorification of evil—turn it off.
Many people experience nightmares, fear, and spiritual attacks after watching horror because what they consume starts to control them.
5. False Teachings That Twist the Gospel
Also, be aware of false teachings. Remember that not everything labeled “Christian” is biblically sound. Some teachings distort the gospel for personal gain and manipulation. There may be sincere disagreements among Bible-believing Christians on things like end times, tongues, or the rapture, but what I am warning against is dangerous distortions of the core gospel message (Galatians 1:9).
For instance, if a message promotes wealth and health over holiness and salvation—turn it off. If it denies the need for repentance or claims Jesus isn’t the only way—turn it off. False doctrine leads to deception and spiritual destruction. It might sound appealing, but it opens the door to deceiving spirits.
6. Sexual Perversion & Immorality
Another sign to keep in mind is sexual perversion. What God calls sin, the world celebrates as freedom, especially the entertainment industry. This is a topic the Bible encourages us strongly to flee from (1 Corinthians 6:18).
If you’re watching shows with explicit sex scenes, content pushing immorality as normal, or humor mocking biblical purity—turn it off. If conversations normalize LGBTQ agendas that contradict Scripture—turn them off. Repeated exposure leads to normalizing this and eventually compromising.
7. Profanity & Cursing God’s Name
Lastly, I want to remind you that words carry power. Constant exposure to profanity, vulgarity, and blasphemy will affect your spirit. The Bible tells us in Ephesians 4:29, “Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth.”
In other words, even if you’re not the one cursing, entertaining yourself with it still pollutes your soul. If you hear profanity, filthy jokes, or God’s name used casually or in vain—turn it off. Gossip, slander, and crude speech all grieve the Holy Spirit.
