There are moments in life where we feel barren—whether in our dreams, our finances, or our faith. The Bible tells us that in these times, God calls us to sing, to prepare for expansion, and to trust in His provision (Isaiah 54). If you feel you are being stretched this season, here are a few things the Bible encourages us to do from the Book of Isaiah.
Why God Is Stretching You This Season
1. You Must Stretch Your Curtains When God Starts Enlarging Your Tent
When God begins to move in your life, it often comes with a stretching. Maybe you’ve prayed for growth in your business, career, ministry, or personal life, but growth is uncomfortable. Expansion means more responsibility, more challenges, and more reliance on God.
Think about it—when an expectant mother’s belly grows, it stretches her body. In the same way, when a business grows, it stretches its owner’s capacity. A new role stretches your skills and comfort zone.
Many people ask, “God, expand my life! Bless my family!” But expansion comes with stretching. Matthew 12:13 says, “Stretch out your hand.” Faith, like a rubber band, lies dormant until stretched.
When God starts doing something new, we have to stretch our mindset, stretch our expectations, and stretch our faith. Maybe you’ve been in a season of comfort, but God is calling you to step into something bigger. It might be uncomfortable, but if you stay flexible and trust in Him, you’ll see His hand at work in ways you never imagined.
2. You Must Strengthen Your Stakes When You Stretch Your Curtains
It’s important to understand that a bigger tent without strong stakes will collapse. When God expands you, know that it will come with stress. That’s the reality. New seasons add new pressures–in the same way that marriage adds stress, children add stress, owning a business adds stress. All growth brings weight. If your foundation isn’t strong, you will buckle under pressure.
Some people, when faced with stress, say, “I wish I could go back to a simple life.” It’s important to note that that’s a victim mentality. The real problem isn’t expansion—it’s weak stakes. The Bible says, “Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength” (Isaiah 40:31). Note that it doesn’t say He removes stress, but rather that He strengthens you to carry it.
During these times, some turn to numbing—alcohol, pornography, distractions. But these are like Tylenol–they numb symptoms without solving the problem. Instead, I would encourage you to strengthen your stakes in God.
Read the Word. Pray. Fast. Worship. Switch your mindset from victim to victor and ask God to give you the strength to match your season.
3. God Wants to Take You from Enlargement to Expansion
Next, understand that enlargement and expansion are not the same thing. Enlargement means growing in capacity, while expansion means stepping into new territory. Isaiah 54:3 says, “You shall expand to the right and to the left, and your descendants will inherit the nations.”
In other words, God doesn’t just want to grow you—He wants to send you. It’s one thing to develop skills, build resources, and grow spiritually, but at some point, you must step out. Many people pray for God to expand their influence, but when the opportunity comes, they hesitate. Expansion requires action. It means stepping out of your comfort zone, trusting God to lead you into unfamiliar places, and walking in faith even when you don’t have all the answers.
4. God is the Source of Whatever Resource You Are Lacking
Lastly, remember that fear feeds on past failures, other’s opinions, and current struggles, but faith trusts God’s truth above what appears to be true.
In Isaiah 54, God tells the barren woman, “Don’t be afraid. You will not fail.” Similarly, I believe God is telling that to many people who fear the future because of past disappointments.
Remember that faith doesn’t lean on fear—it leans on God. We see that the verse 5 in that chapter states that “Your maker is your husband, the Lord of hosts is His name.” What is a husband? A provider and protector. God is saying, “I take responsibility for your provision. I got you!” Maybe you worry about finances, your family, or your calling. God is saying, “Rest in Me. Trust in Me.”
Final Thoughts
As you find yourself in this season, keep your head up. God will take care of your family, your business, your needs. When Jesus slept in the storm, it wasn’t because He didn’t care—it was because He trusted the Father.
I encourage you to not feed your fears, but feed your faith. Praise God. Worship. Surround yourself with believers. Remember the good things He has done. He is expanding your tent, stretching your faith, and strengthening your stakes.
