Our sleep should be a time of rest and peace where the Lord speaks and guides our lives, but that’s not always the case. If you’ve been experiencing nightmares or demonic attacks in your sleep, there are practical steps you can take to guard your mind and protect your spirit.
How to Prevent Demonic Attacks in Your Sleep
1. Pray before sleep and invite God’s presence
First off, I would encourage you to cover yourself, your room, and your bed in prayer. Specifically welcome the Holy Spirit into your sleep and declare that no evil has permission to enter.
2. Anoint your home and room with oil
Next, consider using anointing oil to dedicate your home to the Lord if you haven’t already. This is a physical act that shows spiritual authority. It is a symbol of God’s protection on our property.
3. Declare God’s authority and peace
Take time to speak out loud. Now, this may seem weird at first but verbalize that your home belongs to Jesus. Declare peace in your room and in your house and quote the Scriptures that remind you of God’s promises.
4. Remove spiritually questionable items
It’s also important to go through your home and get rid of anything connected to witchcraft, horror, the occult, or any object that does not honor God. These can often be things that invite darkness to dwell in our homes without us knowing.
5. Meditate on Scripture before bed
Another big thing to remember is that instead of letting your mind wander at night, fill it with the Word. Read verses and think about them. This way, they seep into your spirit and it allows for your mind to be focused as you drift off.
6. Avoid distractions like TV or social media
End your day focused on God, not on entertainment or mindless scrolling. As your day comes to an end, choose your time wisely, especially when you’re struggling to sleep. Give the Lord your attention in those last moments before sleep. This often makes a huge difference.
7. Read godly books or memorize verses
Next, take in teaching, testimonies, or Bible verses that stir your faith and strengthen you spiritually. When you fill yourself with these things, it helps you stay focused on what is true and good throughout the day, which eventually has an effect on your sleep.
8. Maintain consistent worship, prayer, and devotion
I would encourage you to stay connected to God, worship often and pray throughout the day. Your sleep and your daytime routine are not separate. They are interconnected. You’ll notice that what you spend your time on in the day will often leak into your rest. Therefore, it’s important to keep your heart tender before Him throughout the entirety of your day.
9. Guard your spiritual atmosphere
Lastly, be careful what you allow into your home, what you listen to, and what you watch. Be discerning, especially if you’re struggling with your sleep. Be intentional about setting an atmosphere of praise, peace, and the Word of God.
