When God Opens the Door of Opportunity

When God Opens the Door of Opportunity

There are unique moments in our lives when God gives us an open door that can change everything, but if we let it slip by, we can find ourselves living with regret and dreaming of what could have been.

These doors of opportunity aren’t just for blessing; they’re meant to build you up and draw you into the destiny God has prepared. However, no matter the door, it’s important to know this: opportunities don’t last forever. Seize them, or you’ll miss them. Here are some important things to consider about opportunities we may come across.

How King Ahab Missed His Opportunity from God

In the Bible, we see that a prophet says to King Ahab, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Because you have let slip out of your hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people’” (1 Kings 20:42).

God gave Ahab victory but expected him to complete what was started. When Ahab failed to seize this opportunity, his life spiraled. A missed moment led to lost momentum, and in the end, Ahab lost everything. In the same way, God gives us opportunities, but it’s up to us to follow through so that we can see His purpose fulfilled.

It’s also important to understand that the devil will actively seek opportunities to exploit our walk. Ephesians 4:27 tells us not to “give place to the devil.” Just like mosquitoes enter through open doors, the enemy looks for any open door in our lives to enter and destroy the plans that God has for us.

As believers, we must keep every door closed to him through purity and obedience to the Lord.

Learning to Recognize the Opportunities

Whenever God desires to open a door, it often shifts the season we are in. In 2 Corinthians 2:12, we see that Paul wrote, “A door was opened to me by the Lord.”

Doors in our lives represent new opportunities, access to new seasons, and moments for growth.

1. Doors Provide Access

Doors give us access to new places and experiences. Whether it’s a change in our spiritual lives, health, or relationships, open doors move us into new levels of faith and growth. But this access requires discernment and courage to step forward when God opens the door.

2. Doors Are Often Closed but Only for Specific Moments

Doors don’t stay open forever. Just as opportunities have a window, they’re available only for a time. For instance, the Israelites’ opportunity to enter the promised land was closed after their disobedience. In the same way, there are certain moments that may never return, so we must respond to God’s call while the door is open.

3. Knock on the Door

It’s also important to understand that sometimes the door isn’t open immediately. In the Bible, we see that Jesus encourages us to knock, and the door will open as a result (Matthew 7:7). When an opportunity isn’t present, we can pray for it and keep seeking God’s will. Preparation through faith and prayer aligns us with God’s timing and opens doors in His perfect season.

4. We Need to Have Keys

Preparation is key.

David wasn’t prepared to face Goliath on a set schedule; he was prepared at all times by fighting lions and bears. When God’s opportunity appeared, he was ready. If we prepare, God’s open doors become something we can easily walk through.

5. Doors Have Thresholds

Lastly, it’s important to know that every open door has a threshold that can be challenging to cross. When God moves us into something new, the unfamiliar can be difficult to manage. I want to encourage you to push through that threshold and don’t be tempted to return to the comfort of the past. Keep moving forward.

Final Thoughts

Also, I would like to add that not every open door is from God, and we must be discerning of the differences. Sometimes, the enemy disguises traps as opportunities.

David refused to take Saul’s life, even when it seemed like a convenient way to fulfill his destiny. If we have to bend our morality to enter, it’s a trap.

Wait for God’s timing, and don’t be desperate for a blessing; be desperate for God.
