Changing Lives in Guatemala

One of the greatest privileges we have as VSM is partnering with men and women of God who are faithfully serving on the frontlines of ministry around the world. Today, I want to share with you about our partnership with Ministerio Senderos de Luz Guatemala, led by our dear friend Hilmar in Santa Lucia Milpas Altas.

Bringing Light in Guatemala

Hilmar and his team are reaching their community in practical and powerful ways. Our VSM team has had the privilege of visiting Senderos de Luz on three separate occasions, and every time we’ve been deeply moved by the love of Jesus in action. From the meals served to the children to the care for widows, we’ve seen with our own eyes how God is transforming lives through this ministry. Their work is not just about meeting physical needs—it is about sharing the love of Jesus while providing dignity and hope to people who are often overlooked.

Here are some of the ways Senderos de Luz is impacting lives every single week:

• Feeding Programs: Around 100 children are fed twice a week.
• Preschool Program: A daily program for kids ages 3–5 at one of their sites.
• Widow Program: Meals provided weekly for 25 elderly widows.
• Bible Distribution: Getting God’s Word into the hands of those who need it.
• Sports Program: 30 children gather twice a week for training, mentorship, and discipleship through sports.
• Trade School: Adults are equipped with practical skills such as cooking, baking, sewing, carpentry, and English, empowering them to provide for their families.

This is the Gospel in action: feeding the hungry, equipping the poor, and lifting up the name of Jesus.

Meeting Needs Together

Last month, Hilmar’s truck tires completely wore out. Without them, he couldn’t continue delivering food, supplies, and resources to those who depend on this ministry. By God’s grace, and because of faithful giving, we were able to immediately send finances to cover the cost of new tires and repairs.

This may seem like a small thing, but in reality it was a lifeline. That truck is a tool in the hand of God, used to carry bread, Bibles, and blessing to hundreds of people every week. Without it, Hilmar’s only other option would have been to get around on a motorcycle, which could never carry all the food, supplies, and resources that so many depend on.

Why We Partner

We believe that the work Hilmar is doing is close to the heart of Jesus. James 1:27 reminds us that “pure and undefiled religion before God the Father is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself unstained from the world.”

When we sow into this ministry, we are sowing into eternity. Every plate of food, every water filter, every stove, every child in school, and every widow who eats because of this ministry is a testimony of God’s love in action.
