Breaking Generational Curses: Anna’s Journey from War to Peace

The War in Ukraine That Changed Everything

Life in Ukraine was far from ordinary for Anna. As a child, she never anticipated the unimaginable horror that would unfold in her home country, altering the course of her life forever. In 2014, when Anna was only seven years old, the unthinkable happened: the Russo-Ukrainian war began, changing her entire life.

“That was the moment my world changed forever,” Anna recalls. “I was a child, and I didn’t understand why war was happening, but I knew that things weren’t safe anymore. We lived in fear every day.”

The Shadows of Trauma

The horrors of war were not distant for Anna—they were her reality. The sounds of explosions, the fear of an uncertain future, and the constant feeling that danger could strike at any moment stayed with her for years. Living in a Ukraine war zone deeply affected her sense of security.

“Even after the war ended, I still felt the terror, the anxiety, the fear that I might die at any moment. I believed that war would always follow me,” she says.

The war in Ukraine was not just an external battle—it became an internal one too. When the war reignited in 2022, Anna’s trauma resurfaced in ways she hadn’t anticipated. The decision to leave Ukraine and find refuge in Europe became an exhausting journey for Anna and her family, and ultimately, they moved to the United States in May of 2022.

Carrying the Weight of Anger and Bitterness

But the physical escape from war was not enough to free Anna from the emotional scars. She carried with her the weight of fear, anger, and the remnants of war brought upon by the Ukraine war. These emotions led to a deep-rooted bitterness that shaped her interactions with the world around her.

“I swore I would never forgive Russia. The pain and anger I felt were too intense. I couldn’t even look at a Russian person without feeling this hatred,” Anna admits.

Anna struggled with her emotions despite her upbringing in a Christian family. Her faith told her she should forgive, but the battle was overwhelming. She felt consumed by her anger, as though the war had placed a generational curse upon her—one that she couldn’t break on her own.

“My anger was controlling me. I felt like I couldn’t escape it,” she confesses. “I knew I was supposed to forgive, but I couldn’t. It was like something was holding me back.”

A Turning Point: Finding Hope in Jesus

Anna’s brother discovered Pastor Vlad Savchuk Ministries online, a ministry that actively provides humanitarian aid to those affected by the war in Ukraine. As they followed him online, they began listening to his messages regularly. Pastor Vlad’s teachings about forgiveness, healing, and deliverance resonated deeply with Anna and her brother, who had suffered emotional, spiritual, and physical wounds from the war.

“One day, my brother took me to Pastor Vlad’s church in Pasco, Washington for the monthly prayer line,” Anna recalls. “I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I felt like something had to change.”

During the prayer line, something unexpected happened.

“I was prayed for, and I could feel the power of God moving in me,” Anna says. “When the minister prayed against generational curses, I started shaking uncontrollably. It was like something was leaving me, something I had been carrying for years.”

Freedom Through Forgiveness

Then came the breakthrough prayer against the spirit of unforgiveness. That moment marked a major shift in the effects of the war on Anna.

“I started screaming. I fell under the anointing of God. And when I got up, I felt completely different. The weight was gone. The anger, the fear—they were no longer controlling me,” she says, her voice filled with awe.

Then, the pastor who prayed for her spoke a word of knowledge over her.

“He told me that God had set me free from the nightmares, and that my past experiences would be used to help others. That moment changed my life.”

A Life Turned Around: Walking in Joy and Freedom

Anna now believes that her journey, filled with pain and healing, has a purpose beyond her own freedom. She feels called to help others who have suffered trauma like hers, offering them hope that they, too, can be free from the impacts of the Russo-Ukrainian war.

“Now, I am a completely different person. I am filled with the joy of the Lord. The wall that separated me from God is gone. I feel closer to Him than I’ve ever felt before. I’m so thankful to Jesus for setting me free,” Anna says with gratitude.

A Testimony of Healing and Hope

Anna’s story is one of endurance, faith, and freedom. What began as a journey marked by fear and trauma has blossomed into a testimony of hope and healing. From a girl who once swore never to forgive to a woman who embraces forgiveness, Anna is proof that even the deepest wounds from any war, physical or spiritual can be healed through the power of Jesus Christ.

For anyone facing the weight of bitterness or trauma, Anna’s story reminds us that there is always hope for healing—and that the journey toward freedom may begin with just one prayer.
