The Power of Praise

We are all commanded to praise God. We see all throughout Scripture verses that command us to do so.

Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD.

Psalms 150:6

But what actually happens as a result of our praise? I want to share with you 4 things that are affected as a result of your praise.

1. Praise gives God a throne to sit on

But You are holy, enthroned in the praises of Israel.

Sometimes people think they are singing and their praise is not going past the ceiling, but that can’t be further from the truth. When we worship the way we are told in the Bible, in spirit, and in truth, our praises make a place where God is enthroned.

God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.

John 4:24

2. Praise confuses the devil

“When the three hundred blew the trumpets, the Lord set every man’s sword against his companion throughout the whole camp; and the army fled to Beth Acacia” Judges 7:22

“Now when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated.” 2 Chronicles 20:22

We see as evidence in these verses that when the people of God decided to praise through trumpets and song, the Lord used it as a powerful weapon to defeat the enemy.

The same thing can be true in your life. When the devil tries to attack you with depression and anxiety, confuse the devil by doing the opposite of what he is trying to make you feel. Praise God during those times. Defeat the devil through your praise.

3. Praise protects our heart

But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.

Acts 16:26

We see that even despite the trials that Paul and Silas were facing, they did not allow the devil to build anger or resentment against God within their hearts. They decided to praise God-even in the midst of the jail cell. It was this behavior that caused divine intervention. As they worshiped, their hearts were reminded of God’s goodness.

Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped.

Job 1:20

We see another example of this in Job.

The devil aim’s to harden your heart against God in difficult times, but if you feed on God’s faithfulness, you will begin to remember His goodness, and filling your mind with that will cause protection in your heart against the enemy’s schemes.

Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.

Psalm 37:3

4. Praise gives us a new perspective

And Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those sitting down; and likewise of the fish, as much as they wanted.

John 6:11

Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me.

Gratitude adjusts attitude, and attitude adjusts altitude.

Attitude is the established way of responding to people and situations that we have learned, based on the beliefs, values, and assumptions we hold. It’s the framework for dealing with change, opportunities, failures, and problems.

“If you look at your problem as a problem, it is a problem. If you look at your problem as an opportunity, it is an opportunity.”
