7 Signs You’re Under Attack
Not every battle that we face has a demon behind it, but as Christians, we must remember that we live in a spiritual world. This world existed before our physical, tangible one, and many of our struggles have roots in the spiritual realm. Too often, we’re busy dealing with symptoms instead of getting to the roots, like clearing a spider web instead of removing the spider.
To understand the enemy’s tactics, we need to know how the python operates. Here are seven signs that indicate you might be under a spiritual attack (from Jentezen Franklin’s book, The Spirit of Python).
How to Identify the Signs of Attack
- Loss of Hunger for God
The enemy doesn’t want you to have a passion for God. Sometimes feeling passive toward God may simply reflect the flesh, the world, or our sinful nature trying to draw us away. But a loss of spiritual hunger can also be a spiritual attack. - Always Physically Tired
Spiritual warfare can cause extreme physical fatigue and can leave you exhausted even when you are fit, eating well, and getting plenty of rest. - Attack of Lack
Financial problems piling up all at once could be a sign of spiritual attack. Although physical reasons like economic conditions or personal habits could also be the case, constant financial issues despite discipline and diligence may mean you’re under a spiritual attack in this area. - Struggling Prayer Life
A weak prayer life gives the enemy an opening. He will try to weaken your prayer life, knowing it’s important for your spiritual strength. - Super Overwhelmed
Feeling mentally overwhelmed may also be another sign since many battles happen in the mind. The enemy will often target our minds when sending an attack. - Old Habits Trying to Make Their Way Back
When old habits begin to resurface, they may be knocking on the door, hoping to regain entry into your life. This could be another sign of spiritual attack. - Pulling Away from the Christian Community
Isolation can be a dangerous trap. A desire to avoid community, stop going to church, or make excuses to be alone can signal spiritual attack.
Seven Steps to Fight Back
1. Force Feed Yourself on God’s Word
Even if you don’t feel like it, feed yourself with God’s word. Starving your spirit makes you an easy target for the enemy, so read, listen to, and memorize the Bible.
2. Prioritize the Sabbath Once a Week
Set aside one day to rest in God. Making this a habit will help you to feel replenished and help you to avoid burning out.
3. Keep God First in Your Finances
Put God first in your finances, regardless of the circumstances. Honor God with your resources, remembering that 90% blessed by God is more than 100% without His blessing.
4. Prioritize Your Prayer
Strengthen your prayer life. Set aside dedicated time each day, perhaps even adding fasting to strengthen your connection to God.
5. Fill Your Mind Intentionally
Move from being overwhelmed to overflowing by feeding your mind with Spirit-Filled books, podcasts, and videos. Replace stressful thoughts with God’s Word and other content that can help you fill your mind intentionally in the direction that God is leading you.
6. Strengthen Your Holy Habits When Old Habits Are Trying to Make Their Way Back
Fight old temptations by reinforcing your holy habits. Success in the Christian life isn’t about achieving goals but building a lifestyle in Christ.
7. Engage with Your Small Group and Church
Stay connected with your community. The enemy desires to separate you from the flock to attack you more easily.
I encourage you to press into God’s Word, rest, pray, and stay connected to your Christian community, and you’ll find victory over spiritual attacks.
