Before God Brings You Someone
|
Before God introduces someone into your life, He’ll often remove thing within you first. We see that HeHe did that to Adam. Before God brought Adam, Eve, He removed something out of him as he slept.
And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.
Genesis 2:21-22
God Works While You Sleep
I often like to refer to “sleeping” as the period where we’re waiting on God–especially before we’re married. During this time, God begins to work on us and within us. Before we get married, there are areas in our lives that God addresses. These are often attitudes, character flaws, habits, wounds that He wants to remove or heal before we can be a blessing in the relationship with the person He brings. As you wait on God, don’t feel discouraged. See it as a preparation phase. God is working. Don’t be surprised if during this time, you notice that He is removing and breaking things off of you. This is an important step building step in your life.
When you wait on God, it’s not a waste of time – it’s surgery.
During this season of waiting, God not only works on the person who He is bringing, but He desires to work on you. He works on making you the right person for that individual.
Don’t get frustrated when God begins to expose flaws, insecurities, and hurts. Going through surgery is not fun or easy, but at times, it’s necessary for our health. Allow God to do spiritual surgery on your heart, so that you can experience good spiritual health.
This Season
What is that thing that God has been dealing with you in this season? What’s that “one rib” that needs to be removed? Really think about it and don’t generalize it. Don’t say, “Well, God is trying to change my whole life.” God oftentimes works in specific areas and not just in us as a whole.
We see in the example with Adam that God removed a single rib, not every bone in Adam’s body. The Holy Spirit’s conviction works to target specific areas/things in our lives.
Condemnation is always general, but convictions are specific. For example, condemnation says, “I am a bad person,” while conviction says, “I have a bad attitude toward my parents.” One is general, while the other is specific.
God wants to work on you, one thing at a time. Allow the Holy Spirit to convict you of specific areas. When you let God take something out, He’ll bring someone into your life.
